How To Educate Children On The Importance Of International Women's Day

March 8 is International Women’s Day - a day to recognize what it truly means to have gender equality in all areas of our society. The 2023 theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) is Embrace Equity

According to the IWD website, International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Thisday also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality!

At DeeBee’s Organics, we are proud to be a certified Women-Owned business, with the majority of our team identifying as women. We strongly believe in the importance of championing women and other underrepresented communities as leaders for today and tomorrow!

As proud moms and women in business, we are passionate about teaching our children about both the importance of equity and the historical role of women. Keep reading for some of our favorite ways to teach your children about the importance of IWD!

Make A List of Women In Your Life Who Inspire You

Appreciating the role and influence of women starts with the women in your family’s lives! Learn more about the impacts, big and small, of the women in your lives by taking the time to help children make a list of influential women in their own lives, and then discussing their role in promoting equity. Creating healthy, accessible role models is a great way to bring IWD into your everyday lives.

Learn About Influential Women Throughout History

Another excellent way to teach children about the importance of IWD and equity is to learn and understand the importance of influential women throughout history. We love the Rebel Girls Book Collection for children of all ages to learn about influential women and their role in shaping today's society.

Learn About Women In Other Countries

No matter where you might live, your understanding and experience with women’s rights and equity will be different from women in other countries, cultures and socio-economic statuses. By both learning and teaching about other cultures, races, and religions, we can all bridge the gap between women in our lives and the experiences of women around the world.

For older children, the IWD organization has a ton of great resources and learnings on what equity means around the world and the challenges still faced by women today.

A great resource for empowering and sparking an activist spirit in young women is the Girls Get Equal campaign by Plan International.

Express Thankfulness!

Another way to honor and appreciate women is by expressing gratitude to the women in our own lives! Help your children write notes of gratitude or express themselves with a craft or other creative activity to show the women in their life how impactful they are.

Get Creative With Coloring Sheets

For those learners who express themselves through art, we love these IWD coloring sheets featuring inspirational and empowering women!
