New Year Restart
While we’re not big fans of unrealistic diet resolutions around here, we do love taking this time of the year to reflect meaningfully on our lives and our goals. Starting the year off right will look a little (or a lot) different for everyone, but we can all benefit from taking stock now and then.
Here are some things our team members have identified as areas they’d like to work on this new year, along with how they hope to get there. We hope you find it inspiring!
Healthier Work Environments
We’re a woman-led organization with lots (and lots) of working moms on our team. As an organization, we’re continually looking at ways we create a better working environment for working parents. Hopefully, you work for an organization that shares this commitment.
But there are ways you can help make healthier work environments as an individual, too. For example, why not open up about your struggles as a working parent? Go ahead and soothe that crying baby on a Zoom call!
The more we can make the personal professional and be honest about what real life looks like, the more our colleagues will be able to do the same, and the healthier work environment we can help foster.
Focus On Values
What’s more important – dropping 10 pounds, or living a life full of kindness and self-expression? Committing to eating only salad every day, or committing to making someone smile every day?
When you’re thinking about your new year, think about the values that matter most to you and to your family. For us, this is where we like to focus our energies.
And don’t forget: being kind to yourself is just as important. In fact, practising self-compassion is one of the best things you can do to live a more fulfilling life. These suggestions for self care in winter are a great place to start!
Make Life A Little Easier
Who says your new year’s resolution has to change the world? Find us a parent who wouldn’t just like life to be a little bit easier. Sometimes, it’s the small things that make the biggest difference!
For example, we love these tips to make school morning routines easier. Don’t miss these time saving hacks for busy moms. There are lots of ways to incorporate frozen food into your diet that save money, time and energy. And we promise: your kiddos will love these easy after-school snacks.
And finally, Rome wasn’t built in a day. You don’ t have to change your life overnight, even if you could (trust us: you can’t!).
The best goals are small goals, because these are actionable. You know – the whole ‘only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time’ idea. If you need help getting started, think about setting ‘SMART’ goals:
- ‘S’ for ‘specific’ - be clear about exactly what you’ll do, and when
- ‘M’ for ‘measurable’ - how will you measure your success?
- ‘A’ for ‘attainable’ - when your goal is realistic, you’ll be more likely to keep going
- ‘R’ for ‘’relevant’ - is this goal in line with your personal values?
- ‘T’ for ‘time-bound’ - pick a time when you’ll be able to assess your goal

And finally, be kind to yourself. Slip ups-happen. We all have days when we don’t live up to our own expectations, and moments when we struggle. That’s ok. That’s part of being human, too.
